Err... Well, it`s an EARLY reward, OK?
Factually, Ripper is very lackluster. It has short reach, mediocre damage and no specials. The rate of attack is about the only positive bit about this set of blades.
As far as combat performance goes, Lil' Wang is likely a better option - and if starter weapon is a better option, there is very little reason to ever use these blades.

This weapon is a callout to blades used by Vin Diesel in Riddick movies.
